What is Oxidation? |
| Oxidation is a natural reaction that
occurs in our bodies in which the atoms in an element lose electrons
and the reactivity of the element is correspondingly increased.
Oxidation causes free radicals, which are unbalanced, destructive
molecules inside our bodies.
|
|
Free Radicals
- Molecules that attack and damage healthy
cells (oxidation)
- Accelerate the aging process
- Weaken our immune system
- Bombard our bodies every day
|
Where do Free Radicals come from?
- Air
- Water
- Smoke
- Stress
- Environmental toxins
- Ultraviolet radiation (sunlight)
Free Radicals can
turn steel to rust
Free-Radicals in our bodies have been
documented to be linked to 200 different degenerative diseases!
|
| Antioxidants protect the body
from free radical damage. |
|
What Are anti-oxidants?
An antioxidant is a healthy chemical compound that prevents the
oxidation of other chemicals.
The presence of antioxidants in the body can "mop up" free radicals
before they damage other essential molecules (source: Wikipedia).

ORAC Values refer to the Oxygen Radical
Absorbance Capacity of a food to subdue oxygen free radicals, as
determined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. By testing the
ability of foods and other compounds the USDA is able to determine the
antioxidant capability of each compound. |
